Shakespeare Mystique

Introduction

The Earth, some billion years old in age, has changed its meaning for existence throughout the dynasties. One man. One idea. One playwright who has changed the fate of life for the next generations ever since. Shakespeare, a generic term for the highest form of literature in any English-speaking household. His work has prevailed since creation, and is believed that his work will still be studied throughout the future of mankind. Shakespeare spirit never dies.

As one of the many people who studies Shakespeare's work during college years, I was prompted by a teacher to start a production which would hopefully be helpful to the new students in the years to come. Being the first author of this site, I hope that the development of this into a larger database containing a wider range of information regarding Shakespeare and his works will be continued by students in the years to come. This production was started on 4th November 1996. This is still in pre-alpha stage of development.

William's Brief History

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) was born at Stratford-upon-Avon in the house in Henley Street, preserved as his birthplace, in 1564. His mother,Mary Arden, was one of the daughters of Robert Arden, a yeoman farmer of Wilmcote: his father, John Shakespeare, was a glover and wool dealer of good standing who held the office of Bailiff of the Borough in 1568.

From the age of seven to about 14, he attended Stratford Grammar School and received a good education, especially for those days. At the age of 19 he married Anne Hathaway. Later he left for London to become an actor, then an actor-manager and part-owner in the Blackfriars and afterwards the Globe Theatres. He became a first-rate actor, but it is as a writer of plays that he has achieved lasting fame. His plays are thought to be the finest ever written in any language. Not only was he a master of words, using them in such a manner to sound dignified and noble, but he also had such a wonderful knowledge of people and things that he could write about almost any trade or profession as though he were a member of it.

His plays vary in type; some are historical romances, others are light, fantastic comedies, some are tragedies and a few are comic farces. But he was also a business man who made a great deal of money, allowing him to return to Stratford, the place he loved, to retire in comfort.
